Rio in Sorrento Sportsmans Lunch 2016
The inaugural Rotary Club of Sorrento Sports Luncheon was held on Friday 8th January, 2016 and was an outstanding success. Much thanks goes to generosity of the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club in donating the marquee for the day.
There were 334 guests, a fabulous turn out for Rotary, and we have received great feedback from sponsors, donors and the community. This event would not have happened without the huge contribution from Rob Tucker, s Rotarian from the Brighton club.
The theme in keeping with this years Olympics was “Rio comes to Sorrento”. The panel consisted of Luke Darcy (MC), Kitty Chiller (CEO of Australian Olympic Games for Rio), Andrew Plympton (Commodore of Sorrento Yacht Club and current Olympic committee man), Kevin Bartlett (former Richmond Football Club champion and current commentator), and Lawrence Mooney (comedian).
The Razzle Dazzle dancers and singers opened and closed the show and performed with much glamour and glitz to entertain the audience. Over all we raised over $60,000 for this event.
Special thanks to our major sponsors, RT Edgar, Mercedes Benz, Sorrento Travel, Coastcom, and Bendigo Bank. It was a great day for our Rotary Club, and we look forward to staging this event again in 2017.
